2017 will mark the 10th anniversary of he Apple iPhone. In the event of this, Apple has a major plan for this occasion.
Regarding the upcoming iPhone, which has been said to be iPhone 8 instead of the iPhone 7S, there are already abundance of rumors circling around. The launch is getting nearer now, only a few months to go.
Should it be impressive? It most likely is, though it’s still not very clear what we’re going to see.
Rumors has suggested the design is going to be highly radical, with concepts we all might have not think of or have expected before. Here are some rumors that could be coming true.
iPhone Naming
Let’s take a look at the list of iPhone naming since its launch in 2007:
- 2007 – iPhone
- 2008 – iPhone 3G
- 2009 – iPhone 3GS
- 2010 – iPhone 4 (new design)
- 2011 – iPhone 4S
- 2012 – iPhone 5 (new design)
- 2013 – iPhone 5S
- 2014 – iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (new design)
- 2015 – iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
- 2016 – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
- 2017 – iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
If we look at the above time frame, we should expect the next iPhone is going to be called iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. Though it has not been confirmed by Apple, but rumors has been around that Apple will skip the 7S version and go directly to name it iPhone 8.
It is logically possible since there are going to be major updates in design and features.
Processor
An A11 chip which is built on a 10-nanometer process may likely to be installed in the 2017 iPhone 8. This upgrade will make the next iPhone to be faster but more efficient in energy consumption. It is also smaller in dimension.
Body Material
Apple is rumored to be moving away from the aluminium body that has been accompanying the smartphone since 2012. The reason behind this is to differentiate the new iPhone from the previous version.
Also, it is predicted to adopt the glass-backed body similar to the one used in the iPhone 4 and 4S. Though glass appear to be more fragile compared to aluminium but the latest technology in glass are sturdier than ever, which may be stronger to prevent breakage.
Screen
Some rumors have suggested that there will be 3 versions of the iPhone: An OLED screen model and two standard LCD models. Screen sizes may have two variations: 4.7 and 5.5 inches.
Also, it has been said that Apple will implement edge-to-edge display. The iPhone 8 will have display taking up the entire front of the device making it looks like a piece of glass.
Battery Life
Apple will include a far bigger battery capacity for better battery life. Besides, battery life could also be improved by acquiring more energy efficient OLED screen panel.
That’s all the information we’ve collected regarding the upcoming new iPhone 8. Let’s see which one is featured in the new iPhone in a few weeks.
Water Resistance
As the recent iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone 8 will be water resistant too. There’s no way Apple will downgrade this useful feature. Instead, the iPhone 8 may have improvement by acquiring an IP68 water resistance rating over IP67 certification which is featured in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
With IP68 certification, the iPhone 8 may be able to withstand up to 30 minutes under 1.5 meters of water. Besides, it will also provide full dust protection.
Design & Concepts
We haven’t seen any iPhone 8 leaked at the moment, but there has been many mockups and concepts being around on the internet. Check these videos out:
Wireless Charging
Wireless charging is definitely on the buzz recently. Though it was suggested in earlier rumors that Apple was working on long-range wireless charging technology, but the more recent information suggested differently. Apple may use inductive-style wireless charging, similar to the Apple Watch for the device.
Storage
iPhone 8 may features the storage capacity of 64 GB and 256 GB. It is also rumored to be working on maximizing implementation of cloud storage for apps and data.
RAM
The iPhone 8 may also include a 3GB RAM similar to the one in iPhone 7.
Biometrics/Finger Print Scan
Since the display is suggested to be entirely in glass. That means we will not see the usual Home button on the bottom front anymore.
The button which features finger print recognition to unlock the device will be changing from capacitive Touch ID system to optical system, which means, it may be included in the glass or else, a facial and gesture recognition system may be introduced.
