My name is Leonardo Frigo and I am a London-based artist. I’m from Asiago a small town in northern Italy.
I illustrate biographies and stories on musical instruments such as violins and cellos. My work incorporates symbols, pattern and embedded text which allows the audience to engage with the instruments in a unique way. My art’s objective is to graphically represent a story, an event or a biography. I like to think that my musical instruments can be read as books.
I have moved to London two years ago, with the dream of sharing and making Italian culture known abroad.
My painting canvas is my violins. The first time I saw a violin I was 6 years old and since that day the violin has always been present in my life, I’ve been studying violin for years. I started painting my first violin 8 years ago and from that, I never stopped drawing violins and cellos. Each violin is a unique piece and takes almost a month to be realized. They are usually purchased as art sculptures and exposed on marble bases or on the wall
In addition to studying music and having a degree in Art Restoration in Venice, I have worked on several projects such as the Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Seasons and had successful exhibitions in Italy, South Korea, France, and England. Please find examples of my work at Leonardofrigo.com.
In January 2017 I started my new project, Inferno, which is based on the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Each chapter of the Divine Comedy will be represented on a musical instrument with a total of 34 string violins and cellos.
