Julia Kaye, a 28-year-old cartoonist living in Los Angeles had previously worked for Maxim, Cosmopolitan, Buzzfeed, GoComics, Naver Webtoon, and College Humor magazines. Julia is currently working at Disney TV Animation.
Last year, a big change happened to her life, Julia decided to become a transgender woman. She began to face many challenges that bring her a variety of mixed emotional feelings. But Julia strives to remain optimistic. Thanks to the support of her family and friends.
Julia started to make comics, pouring down her feelings that is raging, moments of insecurity and triumph while reaching personal milestones in her life.
The ‘Up And Out Comic’ tells us her personal life such as, buying dress for the first time, learning how to use eyeliner, and talking about her transition.
To create her comics, Julia uses a 12wx Cintiq tablet. She usually draws in Manga Studio and then moves to Photoshop for coloring.
For traditional works, Julia uses Faber Castel drawing pens. She is also fond of drawing on Moleskine watercolors sketchbooks due to the texture and thickness of the paper.
