Kimberly Money, an artist based in LA, has made the series of twelve astrology signs gone viral. What she has created are so gorgeous that you are definitely going to love them.
Let’s find out more about her passions in art, makeup and photography through our interview session with Kimberly.
Hi Kimberly! It’s nice to have you here. Could you please introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Kimberly Money, I’m 19 years old, a photographer and makeup artist based in LA. My hometown is Vietnam, I came two America 3 years ago to study abroad. I’m a college student at Santa Monica College.
How do you describe yourself?
I’m a dreamer and perfectionist. I’m very shy with a bitchy face. I don’t judge people, I always try to put myself in their shoes and try to understand them. And last, I love everything pretty and love to create them.
Who do you admire the most in this life? Your mom/dad/grandma/idols?
My mom, of course. And Cole Sproure. I’m such a fan.
Could you tell us about your story to get into these make up & photography things?
This is something very unusual. So, when I was in my 7th grade, my mom came up to me and said :” Hey, I sign up a short course makeup class for you. You know, just so you can have some skills for the future.” I guess her intention was just for me knowing how to do my own makeup, but I turn out loving it so much that I start doing it on my friend, try to do photoshoot, trying new techniques on YouTube … . It’s been 8 years since I first started.
And for Photography, when I was doing makeup for photoshoot, I realized that nobody in my hometown really capture the makeup correctly. So I decided to take a photography course in summer two years ago, and that’s how it’s all started.
Do you have any difficulty at the beginning?
Yes, I remember that trying to point out which makeup brush using for which technique was the harshest thing.
As we’ve known, your zodiac makeups has gone viral, how long did it takes to finish each makeup?
It’s take me about a month, because I still in college so I really have to make time for it. Each picture took about 3-4 hours to shoot, choose the best one and edit them.
How do you create your artworks? Directly applied or had you sketch on paper before?
Before I started, I kinda have it on my head about how the makeup, hair, and poses should look like, and then I will start to do it, directly applied to my face.
What kind of make up material that you need the most? Lipstick, eyebrow pencil, blush on, lips pencil?
Lipstick and eyebrows pencil.
Where did you get inspirations usually?
I get my inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest.
Who capture the photo for your artworks?
I did, I was shirtless in the picture, and nobody in my family know how to take pictures. So I connected my phone and camera and take it while holding my phone. For the Libra one, I think it’s important that both of the hands should be in the pic, so I put my phone down and use my toe to take it. I also did all the editing by myself.
What kind of camera that you use right now?
I’m using a Canon 70D
Any tips to share to fellow make up artists?
The lighting and editing is very important if you want your makeup to look nice and clean in pictures. Focus on that.
How do you pamper yourself? Dig in exquisite dessert? Relax on spa? Reading books?
Sitting alone in my room to do my makeup and then take artistic pictures 😂 Honestly I never get tired of it.
Do you have any any short video of make up tutorial on Youtube?
I do, but it’s really old, I’m planning on uploading new videos.
