Tulum Jungle Gym, located at Tulum Beach, Boca Paila Road km. 7.5, Mexico is definitely not an ordinary gym, but a real life flint stone gym.
The gym is run by Alastair, who was trained as a Physical Training Instructor for the Royal Air Force in the British Military. He served in this work for 10 years, training soldiers, pilots and engineers. During his career, he also completed Royal Maine Commando training attaining the coveted Green Beret, one of the most physically challenging military courses in the world.
Alastair who is also known as Ali, left military in 2013 and came to Tulum to work as fitness instructor, but not staying permanently. However, his work of training people became more and more frequent, until he decided to move to Tulum and started his own Tulum Jungle Gym.
He partnered with Katie Davies, a personal trainer, a qualified yoga instructor, Thai & Deep tissue masseuse, an Ironman Triathlete and holds a 1st Dan Black belt in Kick boxing. She is also an ex-national acrobat as well as an endurance runner and swimmer.
The concept of Tulum Jungle Gym was born due to dissatisfaction of the normal indoor gym, where people work out inside a space limited with brick walls.
At Tulum Jungle Gym, gym-goers are trained at a panoramic beach, with flint stone style equipments, mostly made with wood by local carpenters. Each training costs $20/400 mxn per hour.
